Shinersia rivularis (family Asteraceae) or oak leaf because of its decorative shaped leaves is a fast growing plant. This plant needs good lighting to do well in the aquarium. Plants can be propagated from cuttings. The flowers are small white and daisy like. Shinersia does very well as a pond plant and can tolerate fairly low temperatures although the growth is slowed. It seems like fish do not bother these plants much. This may be because of their hairy stems.
